Responsible to Senior Nurse

Job Summary

  • Take responsibility for the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of high standards of holistic care for an identified group of  service users 
  • Lead the care team in providing best possible quality care and support to service users 
  • In the absence of the Senior Nurse, take charge of the clinical area
    Clinical/Technical Responsibilities 
  •  Assess, plan, implement and evaluate individualised care using evidence based guidelines 
  • Liaise with the multidisciplinary team over service user care 
  • Maintain all records in line with corporate policies and procedures 
  • Carry out all clinical procedures in line with Sue Ryder Care policies 
  • Ensure the care team provide all care in line with the multi professional evidence based care plan 
  • Organise the admission and discharge of service users

Clinical Governance/Quality

  • Ensure that all service users (or when they are not able family/carers) are given the opportunity to participate fully in the care planning and review process 
  • Maintain high standards of care delivery through working within the national minimum standards of care framework and a Clinical Governance framework 
  • Assist with the annual audit programme, setting quality standards and monitoring quality of care through clinical audit 
  • Take part in clinical supervision

Managerial Responsibilities 

  • Contribute to the smooth running of the Care Centre by providing
    leadership, appraisal and supervision to team members as appropriate 
  • In the absence of a Senior Nurse, take charge of the shift, planning and allocating tasks as appropriate 
  • Maintain good communication and liaison with all other departments
  • Ensure that any critical incidents, near misses and complaints are
    reported appropriately in accordance with Sue Ryder Care policy and procedure 
  • Ensure that any compliments and examples of good practice are
    recognised and shared appropriately 
  • Formally supervise and conduct annual appraisal for carers in team
    Education, Training and Development 
  •  Attend mandatory training as required 
  • Identify any personal unmet training needs and seek to meet them
  • Contribute to induction programme for new staff 
  • Support training, demonstration and guidance to carers, colleagues and students as appropriate

In order to facilitate the safe and smooth running of the Care Centre/Hospice, employees are expected to maintain a safe working environment, maintain service user confidentiality, and occasionally take on reasonable additional tasks.

KNOWLEDGE AND QUALIFICATIONS 

  • Registered Nurse with experience in neurological or palliative care 
  • Relevant post-registration training or willing and able to gain within 1 year 
  • Awareness and knowledge of need for CPD 
  • Awareness of current legislation within independent care sector
