Fifteen intrepid teams took part in Sue Ryder Care – Nettlebed Hospice’s first Dragon Boat Race on Sunday 13th July at Remenham Farm, Henley on Thames.
The sun certainly had its hat on for Sue Ryder Care while the teams raced 250 meters along the Thames in 30ft Dragon Boats. Teams competed in three heats before the best 9 rowing into the finals. ‘Dragon Boaters’ were cheered on from the bank by friends and family who enjoyed refreshments and entertainment from Tropic Steel Band who performed for free.
The coveted title of ‘Best Fundraisers’ and Third place was taken by Jen Cronin and her team ‘Marion’s Marauders’ who raised £5000 – they raced in memory of Jen’s Mother in Law – Marion Browne who was cared for at Nettlebed Hospice. Jen says ‘it was a great day and all my team really enjoyed themselves - they’ve all got the Dragon Bug and can’t wait to take part in next year’s event.”
We would like to say a huge thank you to all the teams that took part on Sunday. Over £16000 has been raised so far. This money will help Sue Ryder Care – Nettlebed Hospice to continue providing care, free of charge, to people from Berkshire, Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire.
